Since I am originally from Russia I decided to revisit some of the folklore that has been of great interest in my childhood. Naturally I wanted to give the dolls my own signature look. Here are my efforts in which faces differ front to back. I decided to paint them in a predominantly in the red color scheme as to playfully emphasize the significance of this color in the Russian culture its link to communism and the apparent surrounding social stigma. |
